Ponyo is the latest Hayao Miyazaki masterpiece. I say masterpiece because that’s the only thing the guy knows how to make, just look at Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and on and on. This plot is about a mermaid, Ponyo, who wants to become fully human and falls in love with a boy during the process of saving the world. Well, that’s the essence of it. Sounds like Independence Day meets The Little Mermaid, but not quite. Anyway, I’m sure it’ll be an instant classic.

There is no initial score on Rottentomatoes, but the IMDB score is an 8.0 with over 3000 reviews. That’s a good early sign. Past Miyazaki movies have also scored high on RT.
