Want to see an Asian American comedy that doesn’t rely on the usual stereotypes but instead features an ordinary guy that has ordinary problems like the rest of the male population? Then White on Rice is the movie for you.
Featuring well known actors such as Hiroshi Watanabe (Letters From Iwo Jima) and James Kyson Lee (Heroes), White on Rice is a heartwarming yet hilarious tale of a man trying to find happiness in life, most preferably in the form of a woman. But of course living with his sister and bunking with a 10 year old doesn’t help his situation, especially since he’s 40 years old.
The movie comes out on September 11 at very select theaters. You can check out the official website for the theaters. The site will update on further dates and theaters for the movie’s screenings.
For those who think White on Rice is a weird title, I did a little research to the meaning of the terms. White on rice is usually linked with the word like to refer to closeness. Example: My husband sticks to me like white on rice. It seems people actually do use this expression although I’ve never heard of it until now.
