Well, summer is ending and you know what that means. Time to go back to school (well, for most of you I assume). It’s time to reminisce about the passing season and whip out my top 5 remixes/covers of the summer!
5. Heartbreaker Piano Version by Melissa (a.k.a smrr00 on youtube)
This short video is packed with talent. I feel that Melissa hit all the right notes to make her piano cover of G-Dragon’s Heartbreaker sound beautiful. You can definitely hear the song in this cover and it sounds very….classical i guess? It somehow reminds me of a battle theme for a movie or video game. Anyways, if you liked Melissa’s piano skills check out her youtube channel.
4. Digital Girl (Final Fantasy Remix) by flipboitamidles
I found this mash quite interesting. I was skeptical at first when I saw flipboitamidles’s post on doing a mash-up between Jamie Foxx’s Digital Girl and famous Japanese video game composer, Nobuo Uematsu. However, once I pushed that play button on youtube I was hooked. Surprisingly the songs blend together pretty well. Take note that the Final Fantasy song used in this mash (Prelude) is actually a remix in itself done by Pasq242. For more mashes by flipboitamidles, check out his blog (mostly covers American hip-hop music).
3. Again and Again Remix by Aliks
I know you 2PM fans out there are bummed out that Jaebum quit the group (for now) but let’s try to enjoy this remix done by Aliks of their smash hit, Again and Again. With some added beats, this club-esque song becomes more dance worthy and addicting. If this is your kind of remix, you should check out Aliks’ other songs on his youtube channel.
2. K-Pop Girl Power (Girlgroup special mashup - 10 songs in one) by Masa
What can I say about Masa? He’s a genius. His two previous special mashes (Hot K-pop 2009 pt.1 and Adios 2008) has garnered him much attention and his newest release doesn’t disappoint. Featuring the hottest girl groups from Korea, K-pop Girl Power contains 10 of Korea’s summer hits mashed into a 3 minute mix. Check it out! For more on Masa, check out his blog. For those who are curious to know who appears in this video: 2NE1, 4Minute, After School (ft. Son Dambi), Brown Eyed Girls, Jewelry, KARA, SNSD and T-ara.
1. Tell Me Your Wish (Rock Cover) by Royal Pirates
This rock cover of SNSD’s Tell Me Your Wish is by far (in my opinion) the best cover of the summer. Royal Pirates has successfully transitioned this hit dance song into the rock genre. Almost like this version better than the original. They’ve definitely improved since I first heard their cover of Wonder Girls’ Nobody. For more of the Royal Pirates, check out their youtube page full of kpop goodness.
Now why don’t you tell me what were some of your favorite mixes/covers of this summer?
