Ichiro lost his cool for the first time in his baseball career! Suzuki, probably one of the best baseball hitters in the MLB and Japan, was ejected for the first time in this past weekend’s baseball game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ichiro was angry at a call. He believed the umpire was making mistakes, and when the umpire called the third strike, Ichiro drew a mark on the ground where he claimed the ball was thrown. Of course, you should never judge an umpire’s call especially on national television! Ichiro then continued that and he was kicked out too early during a report after the game.
I wouldn’t call this disrespectful, considering what Ichiro said about the Koreans a few years ago. During a World Baseball Classic game, Korea beat Japan in one of the matches they played against each other. He said it was “humiliating to lose to Korea” and if he was satisfied with the results, he should quit baseball. This wasn’t very good sportsmanship-like. I would consider it a great day for Asia if I was in Ichiro’s position. Two Asian countries making it to the finals and going against each other! Doesn’t that sound honorable?
Do you think Ichiro deserves his ejection?
