Jaebum could not handle the pressure. If you don’t know about this Myspace controversy, Jaebum made a statement on his Myspace saying that Korea was gay. Of course this was 5 years ago, and he was having a difficult time adapting to a different country and lifestyle. Despite quitting from all variety programs, Jaebum decided to officially quit JYP. This is what he said: More »

Forget Korea exists for just a moment. In fact, don’t even consider 2PM’s Jae Bum’s ethnic background and nationality. While we’re at it, let’s forget he’s a celebrity and the age he was when he said what he said to get him into trouble. I’ve been looking at different sides of the issue, examining where the hatred is stemming from and reading different opinions like the ones in today’s Seoul Beats’ op-ed.There’s still an unaddressed issue that is frustrating. It’s the issue of the use of the word “gay” as a descriptive word to mean “stupid” or “dumb.” More »

When recent Korean box office hit Haeundae was just riding to the top of it’s peak in reaching 10 million viewers, disaster struck. The Korean film industry predicted it to be the movie of the year but plans were erased after illegal DVDs were made in China. Wow. SNSD’s popularity doesn’t stop growing. 2PM, the Wonder Girls’ brother-figure group, are after SNSD again! Earlier, Nick Khun announced his ideal girl was Yoona. During an interview, the members were asked who their ideal girl was. Interestingly, Chansung also admitted he liked Yoona. More »

A serendipitous discovery? Uplaya.com is a scientific research facility that incorporates special technology that decrypts songs to discover their success rate potential. Given the quality example of their work, 2NE1’s Fire, Wondergirl’s Nobody and Girls Generation’s Gee all scored on top of the scales. Is this good news for record labels out there? All one has to do is click a few buttons and it will magically give the success rate of a song? More »

Who has a crush on SNSD’s Yoona? This guy isn’t really the brother of WonderGirls. He is like one though. More »

Apparently the Chinese farmers were not willing to take a backseat to their Japanese counterpart in the twisted fruit-shaping department. Last week, I blogged about some crazy ass Japanese farmer couple successfully crafting their watermelon produce in a heart shape and offering it for a hefty price. This week, a Chinese farmer has upped the ante on that game and revealed his Buddha-shaped pears — each one he carefully crafted and grew inside an individual mould. More »

BoA is officially an auntie, site updates and other news:

Things for Boa-land might seem quiet on the Western front, but there have been a few updates. A few months back, I told you about BoA’s newly-wed brother Kwon Soon Hwon. His wife gave birth to a son and that makes Boa an aunt! More »

Last week, Lillian brought White On Rice to your attention as a comedy film devoid of the usual Asian stereotypes. This week, I thought I’d take advantage of this White on Rice pin game post to talk to you all about a subject very close to my heart (rice) and an issue that has been eating at my soul since I’ve discovered Whole Foods. Folks, rice…isn’t just white. It’s brown, red, black, purple, yellow, etc. Thus, the saying, “white on rice,” is a stereotypical statement in itself. Am I being serious? No. Take me serious in saying this: More »

Who knew G Dragon could have gone this far without his Big Bang members. More »

In college, I bypassed the Greek system because I didn’t want to get in trouble for making it a hobby of creating funny frat and sorority names. What’s so offensive about Busta Kappa or Kappa Tappa Kegga, American Greek system? Or playing pranks on unsuspecting frat boys that somehow lead to freak accidents that end up literally haunting you for the rest of your life? Oh, whoops. I just blabbed Sorority Row’s synopsis. Sorority Row is a horror film out this week featuring Jamie Chung (Samurai Girl, Sucker Punch, Dragonball Evolution, MTV’s The Real World) as main sorority sister Claire. She’s so main character that I don’t even have to explain where to look out for her in the trailer. More »

It looks like we’ve been played by Gamer. Again, it was another movie we had high expectations for. Maybe it was the high-octane action-packed trailers? Ludacris? (Ludacris sold me.) Hopes of Gerard Butler’s gamer character being a reincarnation of 300’s King Leonidas? THIS IS…GAMER! Gamer closed in at Rottentomatoes at a final 24%. It then managed to slip down to 21%. Yikes.
