The two part Chinese epic war film Red Cliff, written and directed by John Woo, will be coming to a theatre near you on November 18th as a single 150 minute film. If you love Chinese history but don’t have the time or patience to sit through the 280 minute original (unreleased in the US), this movie is a must see.

Set at the end of the Han dynasty, immediately prior to the Three Kingdoms period, Red Cliff is a stunning visual retelling of the Battle of Red Cliffs. In this story, two southern warlords- Liu Bei (You Yong) and Sun Quan (Chang Chen)- unite against the larger forces of northern warlord Cao Cao (Zhang Fengyi). Famous faces include Tony Leung as Zhou Yu and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhuge Liang.

Fans of the Dynasty Warriors franchise, a series of tactical video games based on the following historical events of the Three Kingdoms period, will appreciate this film.
