Surprisingly, an Acehnese woman won the title of Miss Indonesia, much to the dismay of the other 37 contestants who didn’t even show up completely. Well they were there but their faces were veiled according to Islamic tradition. Qori Sandorivia did what most of the world does and went without the veil.
The outrage is because she was present in the largest Muslim province in the world. She made no apologies, and said her hair was one of her most beautiful traits, so she wanted to show it.
Oh my, how would people like us adapt to this system? More importantly, are they going to stone her for wearing “gasp” a bikini in the next pageant, AND without her veil in the next contest? I’m not kidding. Indonesia passed a new law that would allow stoning for adulterers. Next time she’ll apply for a Ms. Universe pageant or be entered in one of the USA/International pageants. If they kick her out of her hometown, we’ll welcome her here, for sure.
