This past Sunday night the new hit Taiwanese drama, Autumn’s Concerto, kept its ratings high, even against the premiere of a new drama titled Momo Love. The series’ third episode was able to garner a 3.59 rating on Sunday despite the presence of a new drama. That’s .34 up from last week although it didn’t reach Vanness Wu’s dream rating.
He had a dream where he saw some numbers that might have been related to ratings but couldn’t remember the exact numbers when he woke up. He’s guessing it was 3.43 or 4.54 which prompted Ady An to joke “3.43 is too easy! Last week we got 3.25, so it should be 4.54 right?”
The main cast also held a signing event at Bi Tan Sunday afternoon, and to prepare for the basketball match between Vanness and Tiffany Hsu’s characters on that night’s episode, the event’s organizers arranged a basketball shooting game for the cast and fans. Each actor (Vanness Wu, Ady An and Chris Wu) got to choose 2 fans each to join them on the stage and the competition began. Chris Wu came out on top as he made 22 goals in one minute with Ady and Vanness not too far behind with 21 and 17 goals respectively. The 2 fans on Chris’ team received some expensive gifts but the other 4 fans were able to receive “love hugs” from Vanness and Ady (I’m sure they weren’t disappointed).
For those of you who are curious about Autumn’s Concerto, the story goes like this (taken from Taiwan Entertainment) : Ren Guang Xi, a cocky law student, seems to lead the perfect life. He’s the sole successor to a huge and famous business and a talented ice hockey player. But in reality, his lonely life lacks joy, laughter and motivation. That is until he meets Liang Mu Chen, the new bento seller at his school canteen. Although orphaned at a young age, Mu Chen does not let her past affect her and lives life with great passion and determination. A harmless bet brings the two together and Guang Xi slowly changes as Mu Chen teaches him how to give and love. Tragedy strikes when Guang Xi suddenly has to go through a major brain surgery which causes him to lose his memory. His mother begs Mu Chen to leave him and the latter has no choice but to do so. Little does she know that she already has Guang Xi’s child.
Six years pass. Mu Chen lives a quiet life with her young son in the countryside while Guang Xi is now a successful lawyer and is engaged to He Yi Qian, the kind and beautiful doctor who took care of him after his surgery. A strangely familiar piano piece stirs Guang Xi’s heart as he struggles to recall his past romance with Mu Chen. How will the couple make up for six years of lost time? Happiness, which stop will I alight at?
What’s up with these Asian dramas? Autumn’s Concerto is full of cliches and cheesy moments but I can’t stop watching. This is my first Taiwanese drama so I can’t really say how good or bad it is compared to other series but I’m enjoying it right now. What I can say is that the actors are doing an awesome job bringing the characters to life. From Ady to Vanness and even to Chen Mu Yi who plays the creepy uncle, every character portrayed is convincing.
If you love Asian dramas and haven’t seen Autumn’s Concerto yet, then check it out! It has a typical storyline but the delivery of that story is what really counts and this show does it well.
Here’s a news snippet of the event (sorry no subs!):
