So, have you been watching Three Rivers, the new CBS series featuring Daniel Henney as Dr. David Lee? A week ago, I would have told you that you weren’t missing much if you hadn’t been watching, but as of the last episode, I have totally changed my stance.

Three Rivers is a hospital drama that focuses entirely on a transplant team. I was curious how far the series could really go as a medical series with such a narrow focus, and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I shamelessly admit that I recorded it specifically to see Daniel Henney, who supposedly had a prominent role on the show. I say “supposedly” because the first few episodes didn’t include much development for his character, and I began to get the sinking feeling that the sexy, womanizing Dr. Lee was little more than comic relief.

The last episode completely changed my perspective. What first seemed like a cheesy attempt to inject some humor into the show through the character of Dr. Lee was really setup for what would play out to be a dynamic and interesting character of great substance and grace. I now have more respect for the series than I ever anticipated, and I want to recommend it to anyone who enjoys medical shows.

Although the season got off to a slow start and as a series overall I don’t find it exciting enough to prioritize over Dexter (which occupies the same time slot), I find myself growing more interested and more emotionally involved in the stories as time goes on, and I will be making sure I stay caught up on episodes.

If you haven’t given this series a chance, start watching: this is starting to get good.
