I would like to introduce my new hero. His name is John Liu and he just became the new comptroller of New York City. He also just made history being the FIRST Asian American to be elected to citywide office. A democrat who was formerly a Queens councilman, Mr. Liu defeated Republican Joe Mendola by a wide margin (76 percent to 19 percent).

Mr. Liu moved to this country with his family from Taiwan at the age of five. He attended New York City public schools and university and worked at a private consulting firm before he was elected to the city council. His victory is a classic immigrant success story and is something all Asian Americans should be proud of.

Congrats Mr. Liu! Next stop, mayor of NYC?
