Square enix is such a tease. Every day Square releases bits of information, and each bit hits home making you want more and more. Although I could’ve kept up a daily blog about it, I’ll simply compile it into 3 parts of what I discovered over the past 3 days.

~SOUNDTRACK~
First up is that Leona Lewis (amazing singer!) has been selected for the English release of the game. First Bon Jovi, and now her? Yes, she’s an amazing singer, certainly one of my favorites, but I have my qualms about if she can really capture the true feeling of Final Fantasy. But then I thought, remember Melodies from FFIX? It has hope to play out well like that. Well nevertheless, the song title is My hands from the Echo album. If used in a love scene, it could work. Remember the soundtrack to the game has been the heart, the core of the game. Maybe it could work like Celine Dion’s singing did for Titanic? We’ll see.

~WEAPONS~
The next very important piece of information is the battle system. I have to criticize that 97% of all video games out there recycle the weapons and/or system from previous sequels, but Final Fantasy always reinvents the wheel/game from the ground up. In this game, the concept of synthesis has been modified. Instead of synthesizing new weapons like FFIX and Kingdom Hearts, you will modify and upgrade your existing weapon as you progress through. The effect of this upgrade increases its power, and is very visually appealing. The weapon, “coat of arms-band” on Snow when upgraded becomes dazzling in color and pattern. Lightning who starts out with “Blaze Sword” will later be enhanced to “Slash Carbine”, which has little resemblance to its original status. The player will collect 100+ materials from the game to modify his/her weapon in many combination’s, to the advantage/disadvantage of the player.

~RELEASE DATES~
Finally, the dates for the North American release date for PS3 AND Europe has been finalized at March, 10, 2009. The Japanese will get their hands on it first for PS3 on 12.17.09. Xbox 360 release will need to be completely reprogrammed, there is no set date.

Alexa, Yuliya and I will be back with more Final Fantasy reports, stay tuned!
