Remember that one cartoon back in 2001 about a samurai who is thrown into the future and wanders around, looking for a way back into the past? Well, it seems there are plans for the series to have a feature film with J.J. Abrams (Star Trek film) as the producer.
Samurai Jack is a masterpiece animation created by animator Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls). It had a successful run on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004 but never received a proper ending. People are speculating that the movie will finally give the cartoon the closure it deserves.
It may be a while before we get a glimpse of the movie. Tartakovsky is in the process of writing the script. However, fans of the show can rest assure knowing that most of Abrams and Tartakovsky’s individual projects meet success. The movie will also have a $20 million budget and combine traditional 2d animation with stereoscopic 3D. I personally don’t care for the 3D factor and wouldn’t mind watching the whole film in its stylistic 2D glory.
Here’s the show’s opening theme with music by Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am:
*Sigh* This brings back so many memories.
