There’s only one man I’m really scared of in this world, and that’s Manny “the Pac-man” Pacquiao. And I’m beginning to feel really sorry for the next guy that’s being set up to fight him: Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Let’s face it, half of us who are reading this (and I hope it’s a lot of people!) flinched when the picture of Manny loaded on this page. I can’t even take his smile without being horrified, let alone being trapped in a ring with the man for a healthy, or rather, UN-healthy game of fisticuffs.
Anywho, let’s cut right to the chase. Bob Arum, one of the boxing world’s juggernaut promoters boarded a flight to the Philippines in an effort to once again initiate talks regarding the much demanded Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. Although the fight does seem to have some potential to actually happen, both fighters seem to be set on getting the larger sum of the profits from that fight–both are demanding a 60-40 split.
Pacquiao’s reasoning? He feels he deserves it because he generated more profit during his fight with Cotto (a hefty 1.25 million pay-per-view buys).
Mayweather’s reasoning? “I’m cool.”
Well, maybe not so much but he hasn’t offered a reason yet so you’re free to fill the blanks with anything you’d like. The proposed date for the fight so far is set for the March 13, 2010. According to Manny’s coach, Freddy Roach (heh, rhymed), that’s too quick of a turnaround and the Pacman needs to rest. Roach’s ideal date for the fight would be May 1st.
In any case, this is just one of the many talks that will lead to the ultimate fight between the Pacman and Mayweather. I mean, if it DOES actually happen…I don’t even want to think about it. Stay tuned, because I feel like some more news will be coming very soon.
