October had to be the biggest debut month in all of music history, with girl and boy bands popping up everyday of the month. While November took a break from this and debuted Nadia from SM, December allows a new girl group NIA to debut alone and to stand out a little.

Their music style lends itself to a very moody, dramatic feel with a strong longing sound to their “Goodbye” track. The music producers and the singers themselves definitely understood how to convey, Goodbye into subliminal music.

The good and the bad: Immediately they are being compared to Brown Eyed Girls. Frankly, I don’t see much resemblance between the two besides one being a bit more serious of a pop group who uses instruments, and the other are synth dance. I think we should cut the comparisons, because I don’t feel they are valid. Like a lot of groups who hold instruments, it appears they are air-guitaring. I can’t tell you if they are really musicians, are just holding them for show. When a group records a music video, of course they don’t play the song live.

However, the guitar fingering just looks all out of the wrong place. If I were to compare a metal band like Megadeth who film their music videos, they still followed along correctly with their own chords. Don’t get me wrong, they could be talented musicians but the video doesn’t allow you to discover that.

Will this group be like an FT island and pose with their instruments to break the trend, or will they dance to fit in with the trends?

Bass – Choi YeongShin (최영신)
Vocal – Jeon SoYeon (전소연)
Guitarist – Hwang BoNare (황보나래)

They’ve debut for awhile now, I havent heard much from them, not sure how they are doing
