Aha, so that was why Square Enix (known for Final Fantasy) was busy promoting Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on launch day in Japan! Square Enix teamed up with Infinity Ward to localize the most famous FPS game on the planet. FYI, first person shooters are a scarce in Japan.

There’s some problems with this though. The soldiers and narration don’t match up with the characters too well compared to their original rowdy American and European counterparts. In fact, I thought I was watching Last Samurai, with guns. I’m not sure what happened to the characters who suddenly are sporting deep-from-the-abyss voices. Scottish accents replaced by the Yakuza overlord, anyone? The video got me in the mood to start slicing people up instead of shootin’ them.

If you think I’m being biased, well actually the majority of complaints happen to be from Japanese natives of the game. In fact, they are outraged. A flood of complaints from reviewers on the major gaming review sites are in an uproar, here. Hmm, maybe they could have borrowed some voice actors from Metal Gear Solid 4?

Too bad for the Japanese, since you cannot select the English voice actors w/Japanese subtitles, as the developers went on vacation and decided to leave out the other options.

As with the other international releases, changes have been implemented to the game. In the airport scene where you are assuming the role as the terrorists they do not allow you to kill innocent bystanders, but will punish you with the GAME OVER screen.
