Korean entertainment has been noted as the cleanest, purest that one could fathom, in which sins and scandals are typically far and few between. It’s the end for an artist if they even imagined a scandal, let alone fulfill it. Lately, the entire Korean entertainment world has been a complete trainwreck. There has been no shortage of mayhem, and I’m tired just writing it out.

After I blogged that previous post about Kpop scandals, it just did not end. Some things came out of nowhere. TVXQ was cut from their record label, YG Ent. is suffering from millions of dollars in loss from embezzlement, swine flu continues to dominate, major lawsuits keep coming, fans were slicing their wrist and sent letters in blood, and additionally fans used their own menstrual blood to write obsessed fan letters. There was a lot more actually but it won’t even fit on this blog.

Am I wishing up the right mistletoe here? My damn, corrupted Americanized mind. In America, sensationalized dramatic lives filled with drama tend to fuel stars’ popularity. The bigger the sin, the bigger the artist or actor. In Asia, especially in the Christian society of Korea, one’s career can be completely over, but it only starts there. A lot of the time you can be excommunicated, or your life can be made into so much hell that you were forced to leave on your own merit (reference: Edison Chen).

Are we to make entertainment out of star’s crimes?

Anyways, K-pop’s record sales showed no improvement from the previous years from the scandals. So unlike the Western world, it can be left out altogether. So I’ll make a selfless wish and ask for Korean entertainment to start the healing process now and become even better next year!
