Final Fantasy IX Odin statue review

Over the holidays I was able to add another Final Fantasy figure to my collection, or more accurately, a statue. While it doesn’t have any articulation points, this allows the details and pose to come through for an excellent display piece in your case, mantle, or to spice up your furniture.

Odin is a recurring summon creature in the Final Fantasy series, who has the ability to instantly kill an enemy monster. If Odin is facing a boss, he’ll still cause major damage. This edition of the statue is for the 9th game look. Sitting on a pale white horse with 6 legs and a massive sword, he’s fearsome yet beautiful at the same time.

Size
Including the menacing sword, the figure stands just over 6 inches tall. The details make it seem much bigger than life though. Read more!

DETAILS

Sculpt shape and detail
The overall shape is very accurate to the figure and its proportions. Due to his exaggerated musculature and heavy brow, the lighting as you can see makes him one fearsome looking fellow. The artist even made sure to individually etch out the chain mail on the horses neck! I lucked out taking a picture of him under a cold LED light, it makes him look as if he’s in the lightning storm like he supposed to be! I just hope it won’t scare of your girlfriend. The lines and etchings are very fine around his chest and care has been taken to shape his tiny eyes along with the accuracy on his cape and sword. God is in the details.

Durability
Yes, I forgot to mention that this is a vinyl, which is quite durable and a bit flexible to withstand abuse. I wouldn’t step on it though, could hurt your foot! or mess up the paint a little.

Paint Quality
Along with the dyes into the vinyl, metallic paint has been added where he has armor, texture in the paint shows on the body of the horse, and there’s plenty of other textures that are well designed.
In addition to the pretty cool paint job, the inside of his cape is translucent giving it a nice layered look to it. This special touch does not go unnoticed and gives it one more dimension.

Snagged it for $8.00 USD! Can’t beat that, right?

Overall likeness and concluding thoughts

There’s no compromise in the look of Odin. I can’t stand it when a statue/action figure maker makes something, stamps the license on it and expects people to buy it because it’s their favorite character or whatever. The truth in this figure is that is exceeds expectations and even costed 3x what I got for retail. It looks just like Odin and surely is eye candy, not like some mass produced eye sores.

Grade: A
Due to everything being right, it most obviously gets an A and a stamp of approval for a dedicated, hardcore Final Fantasy fan like me. Especially since I got it for the price of a deluxe coffee. It would make a decent birthday gift or decoration that requires no literally no space in your collection. Snag it while its low!
