Being a big Final Fantasy fan, it’s shocking and disheartening to see one of the title’s most anticipated games get a low score of 40% in a Chinese magazine.
Here is the breakdown of the score:
System: 1/10 “Such a crude system barely warrants being called an RPG at all.”
Scenario: 2/10 “An epic tear jerker.”
Graphics: 9/10 “Top marks here.”
Sound: 7/10 “Mostly quality.”
Enthusiasm: 1/10 “As if you could play this for 100 hours! I could put up with 8.”
Total: 4/10 “To think it got this bad…”
He criticizes the game for being too linear and considers it to be more of a digital novel than a game due to its lack of gameplay strategy and RPG elements. He even goes as far as calling FFXIII the “biggest swindle in gaming history” and “biggest joke of 2009.” Ouch.
So what am I suppose to do now? Am I suppose to lower my expectations of the game so I can enjoy it more? Or were people overly hyped about its release and put too much high expectations on the game? Well, at least there’s one thing I do know for sure: I’m going to play this game no matter what people say. Why? Because I’m a Final Fantasy fangirl like that.
