Since an Oldboy adaptation isn’t going to happen (due to some legal mumbo jumbo), Hollywood decides to remake a different movie of Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance.
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance follows the story of Ryu who tries to save his sister by looking for a compatible kidney for her surgery. Ryu’s life goes down the drain when he turns to the black market for help. Unfortunately for him, his encounter with the black market will spark his tragic adventure full of murder, misunderstandings, kidnapping and suicide.
I’m not very fond of remakes or adaptations of movies, anime, books and the like- especially if Hollywood remakes it. They tend to dumb down the story and script or they try too hard to make it appeal to the American audience. The script will be written by rookie Brian Tucker whom I know nothing about. So I’m a tad worried at how the movie is going to turn out but let’s hope for the best.
