Sun Mi left the Wonder Girls, for those of you living in a cave far from Korea. Why would she leave when the girls are pretty much the only group breaking into the US history? Not surprisingly, the departure of Sun Mi at a critical time during Wonder Girls’ rise to success has left the music industry baffled. Because it is practically unbelievable that she would leave at this time, than any other, many news articles and Netizen theories came to surface.
Blame Game 1 (Sun Mi left for another reason)
The most popular reasons from Netizens surfaced and most of them agreed that the reasons below were why she left. A triple threat occurred. The fact that she’s not yet an adult pulled away from high school, another that she was home sick. Random encrypted messages that Sun Mi was already missing Korea and could not adapt to American life. The final piece was that touring is difficult on every part of the body and soul. Which is true, because few adults can survive touring. If touring is difficult it also gives no opportunity for the mind to adjust to the homesickness, and that of her young age could of topped it all off.
Response (Wonder Girls suggest to not dig further into this matter)
To the Wonderfuls we love, read this.
To all the fans who have been our energy and loving us.
Hello we are the Wonder Girls.
Through this new, we know how shocked and sad you must have been..!
Because of the fan’s support we were able to live day after day in America with thanks… and learn so much! All five of us have spent a long time discussing because of this news.
For the promise of her fans and the promise to herself, Sunmi has thought over this issue a lot, that is why it took her even longer to make this decision. Because this was such a hard decision, just like the fans we are also very sad but
We hope you respect Sunmi’s decision..^^ because this must have been a hard decision for Sunmi…
But because our love for Sunmi will never change, we hope everyone’s care and love for Sunmi does not change.
We will always work hard and the best that we can! Thanks…We love you!
Blame Game 2 (Blame the creator, JYP)
Because of many issues arising in related entertainment labels that blaming other labels was indeed discovered a truth, other fans are looking to blame JYP. But perhaps not yet on solid evidence.
Fans believed he pushed the girls too hard for his own gain in the market and ignored the health of his singers. I’m not sure I can go with that because, mostly every fan wanted Wonder Girls to become the first to finally crack the US market, it was like a unanimous agreement, and JYP gave what the fans wanted.
Response by JYPE
SunMi is not quitting. She is just temporarily stopping activities. She had wanted to continue with her studies and we respect her decisions. We have not decided in what wat she will come back
Blame Game 3 (Blame Hae Rim if the group should fail)
Hae Rim, the multi lingual Korean (English, Chinese, Cantonese and Korean ) born in Hong Kong is an immediate replacement for Sun Mi.
Many fans, who I won’t choose to name are already hating on the new girl, Hae Rim because she’s such a quick replacement for Sun Mi. In the hearts of fans, no one could replace her no matter how talented. If Wonder Girls should fail, all the blame will fall on her shoulders — that much I was able to get from fans.
-More of my own thoughts: When Yoobin came into the picture, Wonder Girls barely debuted and people didn’t even realize that she was even swapped for HyunA. After that, the girls’ popularity blew up and Yoobin had her own massive fan base. It’s not the same comparison for Sun Mi who’s leaving after a 3-year establishment with the Wonder Girls.
Closing thoughts
I thought the 2PM Jaebum saga for lazy man’s summary would have been my last at least for another year, but it wasn’t long until we had some serious issues. It seems a wish for a scandal free 2010, was in vain because it’s only starting up again. It will be JYP vs. SM again this year for the biggest scandals.
Thanks
