A man in Yokohama, Japan was recently arrested for the possibility of taking part in indecent behavior with a 16-year-old girl. Sounds like an ordinary crime right? It would be if the circumstances of the situation weren’t so ridiculous.
According to the police, 33-year-old Toshinori Sato posed as a school boy, donning a blazer and white shirt while carrying around a school bag so he could approach the girl back in July 2008. His pick up line was basically, “Hey! We were in the same grade in elementary school.” She fell for it I’m guessing since a few weeks after walking home with him and talking, they started a romantic relationship.
The girl dropped out of high school to live with Sato, his mother and his brother. You would think the family would be suspicious if their adult son brought home an underaged girl, right? Well, Sato told them that she was a 26-year-old co-worker. Why didn’t the young girl say anything? He told her not to speak to his mom and brother. This is suspicious in itself but why she stayed with him and not realize the truth is beyond me.
Sato’s brother dropped the bomb last September and told the girl his brother’s real age and said that she should go home. Police say that Sato told her that he would commit suicide if she left him but I guess she disregarded it once she found out about his little deceit. Here were the two sides’ thoughts during the fiasco: Sato- He thought she looked easy to fool; The girl- She thought he really was 16 but just looked a bit older. His fun lasted from July to September last year in which we can assume they partook in some indecent behavior.
Though I feel bad that the girl was tricked into being Sato’s girlfriend, I think she was to blame too. To run away from home to live off with some guy- this is not some fantasy romance novel. It’s reality and sometimes, unfortunately, reality bites.
