Canadian singer songwriter Justin Nozuka is currently who my heart beats for — musically. It used to be another Canadian Justin, of the Justin Bieber sort, but now, I can no longer feel ashamed for liking a Canadian Justin. For one, Justin Nozuka is 21 and not 15. Justin Nozuka’s music caters to ears of people my age — easy, smooth, acoustic R&B. Or your ears if they’re unlike mine and don’t have an embarrassing taste in music. Although I hate making musical comparisons, his voice is the soulful lovechild of Jason Mraz and John Mayer. More »

Koyuki will always and forever be remembered by me as the woman Tom Cruise fell in love with in The Last Samurai and…the woman who decided to keep an adolescent boy (Matsumoto Jun) as her pet in Kimi Wa Petto. Anyone who can play Tom Cruises’ main squeeze and the owner of an adolescent boy is fantastic in my book. More »

Tohoshinki (preferred as TVXQ/DBSKk due to S.M. litigation) had their single break out into the no.1 Oricon spot. To beat their competition was no easy mark, as they were only up against some of the best in Japan, Funky Monkey Baby’s (who impressed me in Kouhaku), L’Arc~en~ciel, and AAA. More »

From Rekuru:

If you’re looking for something incredibly nerdy with a hint of hilarious, check out Summer Timemachine Blues, it could be for you. Directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro, it takes a familiar concept (time travel) and makes it into something you probably didn’t expect.

Girls’ Generation Oh! had people waiting at the edge of their seat, as it had already 500,000 views before the video was even release in GomTV. Youtube racked an additional 540,000 views for the Oh! music video when it was finally released after all the GomTV viewers got to see it. More »

The Sun Mi situation with Wonder Girls and JYP will receive some light, after a few days of demands from the Wonderfulls. If you need to know what is going on, read vol.1 post first. So usually a lazy man’s summary is posted once a week, but due to the climate and urgency of matters, I felt so inclined to send an update NOW. More »

Is the pen mightier than the sword? Or to be specific, are Mixr bloggers stronger than Mixr users when it comes to MLG matches? One way to find out is to pit them against each other in a 1-day MLG match this Saturday, Jan. 30. As team captain of the Mixr blogger team, it’ll be interesting to go against our very own users…with Hoc as team captain of the Mixr user team. More »

The Lotte Fits commercial featuring Takeru Sato is one of my favorite commercials out of Japan. To be truthful, I wasn’t quite sure what they were selling at first because the dance and music was too catchy. I hate to say that I actually learned this dance. I know, I know. I’m sad, but it is just too amazing. To conclude, I love Takeru Sato. Just saying. More »

Girls’ Generation just recently released their new song called “Oh!” and today the music video for the song was revealed. It’s more or less a very Girls’ Generation style video, and it wasn’t extremely hard to predict what this music video was going to be like. More »

A man in Yokohama, Japan was recently arrested for the possibility of taking part in indecent behavior with a 16-year-old girl. Sounds like an ordinary crime right? It would be if the circumstances of the situation weren’t so ridiculous. More »

From Rekuru: Japan has seen a surge of shock horror films in the past decade with such movies as Ichi the Killer, Audition, and now, The Machine Girl joins these ranks. More »

If there’s an anime I don’t like but would benefit from being a movie, I would probably still not like it. And if it’s an anime I already like, a movie may be unnecessary and I may end up disliking it. Here are my picks for anime that need to be made into movies. More »

From Rekuru: If you don’t know who Takeshi Kaneshiro is (shame on you), this post should prove quite enlightening. Known mostly for his roles in Chungking Express, House of Flying Daggers, Fallen Angels, as well as a host of other films, Kaneshiro is one of Japan’s finest actors and this post is going to show you just why… More »

Have you ever played “What’s in the box?” where you touch something and try to figure out what it is? Well, as an Arashi girl, I see it quite often. Normally, it’s something like a wig or something living like an octopus or squid. In this Himitsu no Arashi-chan (HnA, p.s. I think it means Arashi’s secrets although I might be wrong.), Aibu Saki (Zettai Kareshi, Absolute Boyfriend) wants to play it. It’s all fun and games until Mastumoto Jun gets a REAL surprise. I really hope you all watch it to the end becuase I really fell off my chair laughing and got an ab workout as well. Ch-ch-check it out! More »

From Rekuru:

Perhaps motivated by white guilt (having only a trace of Asian heritage myself), I’ve always opposed characterizations of Japanese art as subtle, inscrutable, feminine or “Zen” (whatever that means)…and then I encounter an artist who actually is all those things: filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu. Ozu is perhaps Kurosawa’s most serious competition for the title of “greatest twentieth century Japanese director,” and his name routinely appears on lists of the greatest directors of all time.
