M. Night Shyamalan is the director for the upcoming The Last Airbender movie which is based off of Nickelodeon’s beloved animation Avatar. Yes, we are scared of how the movie will turn out with the issues of the casting of actors/actresses, but let’s put that aside and have faith in Shyamalan’s directing ability. True his more recent movies weren’t his best but Avatar has him inspired so hopefully this will awaken his creativity as a director.
The Last Airbender will be Shyamalan’s first movie where the ideas came from a source other than his head (hopefully this will bring him back up as a director). You can thank his seven year old daughter for that according to the Los Angeles Times. She made the family sit down and watch Avatar and to this Shyamalan instantly thought, “This would make a killer movie.” Even his wife, who has been neutral about his directing job throughout the years, encouraged him.
The spirituality of the series is what caught his eye. He goes as far as comparing it to The Matrix and Star Wars as all of these series combines spiritual philosophy (in way or another) with action. “We get to see the process of someone mastering themselves through the three seasons to get to peace. In the first Matrix, you realize that what you’re seeing is all false. Those are really ancient ideas. Basic old, old religion. This has that as well. So if you go on the journey and you’ll feel that epiphany on top of a great roller-coaster ride. It’s going to be something.”
Here are two posters for the movie that were recently released. Man! I’m so excited!
