So you probably have occasionally seen news articles about weird Japanese men who steal women’s underwear? (If not, why not start now!) But not being content with just underwear some Japanese men have turned to the horrible crime of sock snatching.

This past week police in Nara arrested a man and recovered over 300 pairs of stolen socks (thats more than 600 single socks). The pure horror of sock stink.

Shipping company employee Kazuki Kanemaru, 49, was arrested on Jan 21 after being caught trying to steal socks from the home of a local woman. According to police, on Jan 18 and 19, they received calls from women who had several pairs of socks stolen. Kanemaru was caught dressed in his work uniform, gazing at laundry hanging on the first floor of an apartment building.

The suspect testified that “There was nothing that caught my attention [at the home where he was arrested], so I didn’t take anything,” but said he had stolen women’s socks from tens of other residences.

You have to wonder what exactly was going through his mind, and how stinky his apartment was from all those socks. Just a reminder to any and all female visitors to Japan, watch your undies and socks at all times.
