That’s right you crazy internet goons. I’m talking about a book here. One with pages you turn. Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan is probably one of the most insane looks into the back alleys and dark recesses of Japan you’ll ever read. It’s also surprisingly funny.
Jake Adelstein came to Japan like many young people, to discover himself. After spending time in a Buddhist monastery he became a journalist for a Japanese newspaper. Along the way he investigates the Japanese Yakuza, corrupt Japanese officials, and weird criminal dealings between Japan and the US. His investigations go so far that when he tries to publish the book he receives death threats from the mafia.
For a taste of what his book has to offer why not check out him on The Daily Show. An extremely funny interview that will connivence you to buy this book.
