BoA’s Japanese album “Identity” leaked? No surprise there. The album was supposed to be released on February 10th…so it’s not that bad (only 2 days off). Plus, BoA has a big fan base who are probably dying to buy the album so I don’t think this would be a problem.

1. This is who I am

2. Easy

4. Lazer

6. Is this love?

9. ネコラブ (Cat Love)

My favourite song is THE END そして and… but the album version sounds bad.. don’t like the first bit

This album is disappointing and I agree with Danny.

Pretty much why I went on and on why artists who demonstrate their own creative talents fall short.

After 10 playthroughs I cannot get through to this album. The album is slow and has very unclean production techniques. It lacks the zest and vigor of prevous releases. I found myself in a state of comatose through most of these tracks. The buildup to the chorus is not there, theres no anticipation. Many tracks had a desire to sound good, but ended up bad towards the end. I found myself saying “Wtf” during the compositions.

BoA’s vocals took a toll during her live performances, wher she was required to do some big diva-ish tracks. I feel this has hindered her current state.

The songs are all over the place. Easy started out like Lady Gaga/G dragon then became gloomy with “la la la”. I’m thrown back at the strange composition.

Many times I hear bad mastering but thats expected for lower budget albums. But this time, I hear bad mixing quality and arrangement which is a first for any BoA album. The reverb is easiest to get right, and even that is wrong. The album itself sounds like its inside a dark studio, and does not give the listener an image of being free from it. There are many slow albums that I will enjoy, so that’s not the problem.

It is quite a refresher to hear White Wishes and Possibility, because the production value sounds more professional and contrasts the rest of the album. Lazer had potential but fell short, as did Easy.

I’m bothered by the This is who I am and Neko Rabu as its getting cheesy saying This is me, I’m BoA. lyrics are getting pre schoolish and narcissistic. To sing it once is ok, but over and over. But I’m sure thats now how she meant to express it. It just comes out wrong.

A. BoA is still working on how to express herself
B. You can believe shes boring as an individual

Lets just say I’ll pick A, for the sake of my loyalty to her. I feel BoA will need to continue writing for a period of time to work out the kinks.
A lot of good elements are here but are contrasted by poor design choices. To me it sounds like an amateur demo. I think BoA will need a few more writings to improve upon what she is trying to express.

Its in one word

UNPOLISHED. 57/100

(And people call me biased!)

I srsly think SM is just desperate for some dough right now :/

And dough they shall receive.

hmmm well i do not like fallin...BoA is so much more than this autotuned stuff. i think her english album had a big influence on her with her next jap album..and she knew she had to keep more ballad type songs but they dont really go together..im glad theres new BoA songs and it might take a while to actually get into the music but its still BoA.

Hmmm, I think it’s because it’s autotuned that I liked it better than the rest. Her vocals weren’t really that up to par on this album and there was a lot of times in her songs that I felt she got lazy and could’ve done it better. I just found a lot of her songs to be boring, even dated. Fallin’ was the only one that caught my attention. Of course, I’m judging this through only one listen of the album. I’m gonna wait for the album release.

And I agree with everything you said Danny. smile

Something we agree on. grin

i can’t wait until her album is released!

I too felt that it was lacking something, but hey i’ve gotta give her credit for her attempt on the album. I’ll still be supporting her though

They should have given more opportunities to write more tracks and learn the programs a few albums ago. I feel she can get to the level she wants to be in, just it wasn’t here in this album. It doesn’t mean i don’t support her, i always do.  This album had potential but its still a demo to me.

Whoa, what a video-heavy blog. I love it! I think my favorite is Fallin’.

It sucks for all the people who put their efforts into creating this album, only to find it leaked online and ruin the impact of the release.
