With all the changing of concepts that Korean groups seem to go through every so often, it’s nice to see a band that stays true to their roots and experiences little change in their overall style. One such group is Epik High. The song of the day today is track 15 off of their [e] album. It’s called Slow [e] Motion.

In an interview with Seoulbeats, Epik High member Tablo commented that in the K-pop scene, “there’s a lot of trend following… if everything is trend based and everything is disposable then we’re not going to have much of a tradition for other future musicians to build upon.” He also cautioned to current artists that, “if you’re just doing whatever makes money then [future artists] are just going to do the same thing.

To me, Epik High is one of the most influential artists in K-pop, not only because they stick to their chops but also because they are able to conceive music that appeals to the public. The recent [e] album by Epik High hardly follows any current trends. Slow [e] Motion is a very unusual song that employs both ballad and rap elements to create sort of ethereal feel. Have a listen and tell me what you think!
