M. Night Shymalan’s long awaited (or dreaded) trailer is out for The Last Airbender, and I must say, it looks surprisingly impressive. The effects are top notch and the setting looks right. The trailer is intense and makes the movie look even more epic than the cartoon series.
However, seeing the actors sort of spoiled it a bit for me. I’ve seen all the episodes of the all the seasons and it’s weird to see Katara, Sokka, and Aang being played by white actors. The cartoon was heavily influenced by Eastern culture but the movie has the tribes people be “Westerners” (from what I’ve seen of the trailer). Hopefully by the time the movie comes out, I’d have put this difference aside so I can try to fully enjoy the movie.
I’ve also wondered why Aang’s arrow isn’t blue when promo pictures where released but upon closer inspection, it’s made up of tiny markings. This is one alteration I don’t mind. The markings on his head look nifty.
Here’s the trailer:
Has anyone else also notice that Appa is nowhere to be seen in the trailer and teasers released thus far?
