It seems our fears have come true and the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII will indeed be a crippled one. The Xbox version only runs at 1024×576 with 2xAA while the PS3 version runs at 1280×720 2x msaa. It is far from optimized to be a perfect port, and many compromises have been made.

For instance, the trees in the background are removed, and low resolution textures for the ground are replaced in the 360 version. There’s no telling what else they had to remove in the 360 version. This means that the original screenshots posted by Square were *cough* a white lie, and their new ones supplied are accurate.
(Square left their mouse pointer in their Photoshop edited original screen caps, and were caught, previously.)

At times, the PS3 ports are crippled as well, such as Bayonetta. That game was also not optimal for the game system. All fanboy-ism aside, there are politics and programming issues aside from pure horsepower that dictate good ports.

If you have both a 360 and a PS3, these screenshots should help you decide in which one is the best to take. Another thing to mention is that Xbox will be using 3 discs and will not have cinematic scenes in 1080p. The ps3 version will be a one disc solution with 1080p cut scenes. This is highly unfortunate, as Square’s debut attempt to gain new Xbox fans has fallen flat.

I guess its fair to say to leave your Gears of War, Halo and Call of Duty gaming via. your Xbox, and leave the hardcore RPGs on the PS3.

Bonus: Leona Lewis stopped by to promote MY Hands along with Final Fantasy XIII.
