Taiwanese artist Jay Chou, for about a year or so now, has abandoned his musical goals and has pursued a career in acting and filmmaking. Has he been successful? That’s highly questionable. Find out Tuc’s take on the situation…

Jay Chou is, without a doubt, a great artist. He plays multiple instruments, has a great voice, and composes music beautifully. His acting and directing? Let’s just say I’m not singing his praises.

My first experience with Jay Chou as an actor came with his role in the Chinese film adaptation of “Initial D.” To describe his acting in one word: AWKWARD. Everything out of him seemed incredibly forced and very unnatural. His later movie appearances improved ever so slightly, but remained sub-par.

His directing is a little better, but with cheap storylines like “Kung Fu Dunk,” I’m still not buying it. The recent failure of his television drama “The Pandamen” attests further to his inability as a director. Everyone has different talents. Mr. Chou has a gift in the world of music, but he should, by all means, leave the movie industry to the guys that can actually pull it off.
