It was glorious. It followed most of the clichés that the earlier series followed, some kid gets caught up in the middle of an attack and jumps into a gundam. But what I like about this one is that it follows the mood of the original gundam and zeta gundam more closely. No more pretty boys with plot armor(hopefully). What I also noticed about this series that set it apart from the rest was that even nameless grunt A and B were somewhat competent pilots. They were obviously outmatched by the giant intimidating green mobile suit, but they put up a good fight.
The animation was also pure eyegasm, it was definitely worth the wait. I really liked the art direction, the characters look realistic and don’t pander the fangirls like in gundam 00. No more Lockon Stratos x Tiera x Setsuna, I just want my mecha anime that shows the ugly side of war. And that’s exactly what Gundam Unicorn delivered.
