Probably all of you have heard of 2NE1’s Park Bom, but have you ever heard of a female artist by the name of Sun Min? I hadn’t until I heard this amazing cover of Park Bom’s “You and I” today! She was raised in Korea, but also speaks Japanese quite fluently. She debuted in Japan back in 2006 with a single entitled “Keep Holding U.” Back in 2009, she released a Korean single entitled “Superwoman.”
Who’s version do I prefer more? Well, that is quite a challenging question to answer. Let’s first go through and analyze Sun Min’s performance. This cover is a very toned-down version of Park Bom’s single. Featuring only what sounds like a xylophone, the song has a very “twilight” feel to it (no, NOT the vampire series). Sun Min’s vocals are exceptional; she definitely lives up to this song. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the cover, and I really hope that a more full cover should be made (although this is unlikely).
The winner? By a very small margin, the winner, for me, is Sun Min. Sorry, Bom, I’m a sucker for slow, depressing songs.
Have a listen, and tell me what you think!
