Little Song Sheng of eastern China has a rare case of lamellar ichthyosis, a genetic condition that prevents the body from cooling itself. This strange condition has caused Song Sheng to develop scales around his body due to the lack of skin pores.
How does his skin turn into scales you may ask? Since he can’t sweat or lose heat through his skin, it sheds into scale-like textures.
His family must lay him in baths of ice to regulate his body temperature. “He is in a lot of pain all the time and if we don’t have enough ice he gets a fever,” says Sheng’s father, Song Dehui. “It can be treated but not cured so we are praying for a miracle or a folk medicine cure.”
I hope everything works out for Sheng and his family. He’s just too young to suffer like this.
Donations can be made here to help Song Sheng.
