Tuc’s Take: How’s the new Wonder Girl doing?

First of all, this post will make a lot more sense if you first hop on over to this post about the Wonder Girls’ Sony Ericsson promotions. It’s been roughly a week and a half now since Sunmi has officially left the Wonder Girls, and new-member Lim is starting to settle in. Here’s Tuc’s Take on how the new girl is doing.

There certainly isn’t as much controversy as I thought there was going to be. There was the initial shock (and the hate associated with it), but it looks like people have started looking past that and are beginning to realize that she’s actually not that bad. My opinion? Just exactly that: She’s not that bad. If you watch the performances in Singapore, you can see that she’s a bit confused and unsure on the dance moves, but that’s natural; she’s only had a couple weeks to learn all of these songs and routines. This is a big break for her, and anxiety is bound to play a part in the first several performances. Her voice, although not “husky” like Sunmi’s, has a nice, gentle tone to it. It’s pleasant to hear, but certainly not a power vocal. Then again, Sunmi was never a power vocal either, so it works.

Her big selling point is her English, which is practically spoken with the fluency of a native. Not only can we clearly understand her speech, but we can also clearly understand the lyrics she sings. This is going to be a big factor if the girls plan on attempting to crack the US music industry’s shell even further.

All in all, I think it just comes down to people getting used to her and the way she performs What do you think?

I would prefer to see something that’s not based off fancams, but who know when that will actually be. That way I could see if she really works well with the group.
