Through the ages, we have seen music change. It’s still changing, and it will never cease to change. The current trend in the Korean music industry right now seems to lay in the hands of those that can compose “catchy” and “cute” songs. I think, however, that those days may soon be short lived.

With the return of big-named artists such as Lee Hyori, Rain, SE7EN, and BoA, Kpop may soon be shifting gears, with more of a focus put on solo artists. In addition, I think we may soon see the revival of hip hop, R&B, and dance oriented music. I really can’t see any of the aforementioned artists doing anything remotely close to what’s going on right now in Kpop.

I predict that we’ll eventually see the fall of the girl groups, with the notable exceptions of 2NE1 and After School, who I think have concepts that could very well keep up with the comeback of the 2007 era artists (Sorry, SNSD, you had your fifteen minutes of fame).

That’s Tuc’s Take. Where do you guys think Kpop is headed?

I hope that various artists/groups will be able to expirement with many different types of genre’s so that find out what best suit them^.^
That way the groups can go on for a longer period of time:D

Guys, calm down. Everyone has their own opinion and this is why these type of sites were made, to show your opinions. Please don’t start fights over silly things…

Anyways, I really can’t wait until they comeback, especially BoA. It’s been ages since she’s sang something in Korean, miss it so much! Hopefully she’ll be able to convert some anti-fans into fans and everyone will be ‘Jumping BoA’s XD

Anyways, where do I think the Korean music industry is heading? Every era and decade has their own ‘trend’. For the last few years it’s been a major focus on cute and catchy tunes. I’m pretty sure this will continue, and grow into other sorts of music. Just sit back and enjoy the show…

You guys can agree with whatever opinion you like, but I have a right to type what I feel too. TucTo’s comment about SNSD was unnecessary for this article. How would you guys feel if it was 2NE1, Son Dam Bi, After School, or etc.?

I instated my opinion and you guys the same, that’s all that matters.

^ basically, this.

harmonixia and compliant speak the truth. no need to be all defensive, lilsparky.

I agree with KimTran N’ Lilsparky--that is all.

hmm...I don’t think Kpop girl groups are gonna die down any time soon :/
I have friends who are ‘converting’ to Kpop fans every day and many many guys love those cutesy stuff (or basically the girls themselves)..

Another thing, solo artists - I predict- will not be the “in” thing any more. Maybe they’ll win an award or two but face it, once a popular idol group comes back, they’ll die down. Remember, idol groups = 4-13 members, solo artists = 1. Do the math and you’ll see how the fans go wink

yeah, more and more I’m seeing that guys are getting into kpop for the girls and not for the music. heck, even barely-18 teens are being ogled at (no offense...but that’s just wrong.) and even if it’s for the music, it’s usually the cutesy junk that reels them in first (see: gee, oh, nobody, pretty girl...the list of songs I don’t like goes on).

Right, it seems that looks is starting to play a huge part in Kpop, which I also don’t like. I have nothing against a few catchy, cutesy songs, but I definitely don’t want Kpop to be based on them...which it seems like it definitely is at the moment. (Speaking of Nobody, the Wondergirls are in dire need of new songs...though I like the ballad version, which they never preform anymore).

However, I don’t think Kpop is going to undergo a super radical change just because a bunch of the “titans” are coming back. :(

SNSD’s fifteen minutes of fame? That was a terrible joke Tuc because I didn’t laugh. Also, you expect After School and 2NE1 to last? Did you forget about the age of these women in the group? They are hitting their peaks for the entertainment industry. Not everyone is a “Lee Hyori” of Kpop. Don’t get me wrong; they’re terrific groups, but be realistic.

As for the direction of Kpop, I feel it won’t change too much.

It’s just a figure of speech. No need to get all defensive.

I’m hoping most of the groups go away since most of them are pretty generic. I want more solo artists on top of the charts! :DD

I definitely agree. I feel like Korea is all about “catchy” and “cute” songs right now (which is why SNSD is so wildly popular, yes.) No offense to SNSD fans, but one of my biggest grievances with the girls is that their songs, while extremely catchy, aren’t inherently good songs. Again, no offense, but the lyrics are kind of horrible. This isn’t SNSD’s fault, of course, but I’d prefer songs like Into the New World for them or a nice ballad that can showcase their vocals more. (Dear Mom wasn’t bad at all). This is also why I’m happy SNSD is going to stop promoting a cute image in favor of Black Soshi.

I’m hoping Korea will move away from the the cutesy/catchy (but not necessarily good) song trend, but I’m not as sure where the industry is headed.
