For about a week now, we’ve been using a different system to track EXP points. I don’t know when exactly we’ll be switching to the new system entirely. It could be this Sunday or next Sunday. In the mean time there’s a few things you guys should know.
1. You get more points commenting in a blog posts than a Newsstream story which will give you more than a forum topic. This means, you’ll get very little for playing forum games relative to other areas of the site.
2. Free points everyday! Each day that you log in, you get some points. Each day you have an avatar, you get some points. Each day you hold a record in a game you get points (lots actually). If you hold more than one game, the effects are even greater.
3. Everything gets you points. As mentioned earlier, commenting gets you points. Playing games gets you points. Playing in MLG matches gets you lots of points. Promoting Newsstream stories gets you points. Even clicking on Newsstream stories to visit other sites gets you points. We’re currently tracking 70+ things an adding new ones in the coming weeks.
4. You can get multiple points for doing one thing. For example, giving a quality comment is worth extra than just a one line comment. Being the first to comment gives you extra. So giving a quality first comment is big points!
5. EXP points will decay (or decrease) each day. This only effects users greater than level 10. This is to prevent EXP inflation and discourage inactivity. The amount will be small, but enough to make a difference over time.
6. Bloggers will be counted separately from now on. They kinda had an unfair advantage over other users.
Other new features include fan points, charts/graphs, and hourly EXP updates (instead of daily updates). We’ll get into more details on those when all these changes are finished and tested.
