SNSD performs Run Devil Run @ KBS Music Bank

Today, SNSD performed their latest song, “Run Devil Run,” on KBS Music Bank. To the surprise of all the fans, SNSD showed up in white outfits instead of the expected black.

I, personally, had a lot of problems with this performance. I’m very critical with SNSD, because I know that they have the capabilities to do a lot better. While the dance moves themselves were great, the execution and synchronization of the moves was rather sloppy and lacked a sense of crispness.

Vocally, the performance was also pretty underwhelming. The singing distribution in this song is quite even… Too even. Hyoyeon got way too many parts, and we all know how great her singing is. They should have opted for a dance break instead. Yuri and Tiffany got pretty ripped off in this song. All of their parts are pretty nondescript. Jessica, on the other hand, was given the second “power vocal” part. I completely disagree with whoever decided that she could sing that part, and this performance affirms that she’s one of the most overrated singers in the group. She can sing but not as well as Yuri or Tiffany, either of which should have gotten Jessica’s part.

One last comment before I move on to the positive stuff: The outfits and hair were atrocious. The ensemble looks fine from the feet up, until you get to the neck area. From there on it gets progressively worse. The collars are just bad looking; it’s an obvious attempt at pulling a page out of Lady Gaga’s book. Finally, the hair was just a mess. Kind of reminiscent of Sandara Park’s “palm tree,” but distributed across nine girls.

While there was a lot I didn’t like about this performance, there were a couple things I actually enjoyed. The stage was setup very nicely, but the whole package would’ve worked better with black outfits like in the pictures. Also, Taeyeon, as always, did excellent. Seohyun really surprised me with her little power bit at the end. It was like a light shining down from the heavens. You go, girl!
