Tsutomi Nihei’s artwork is very interesting. It’s different from what you see in mainstream manga. You could say that his art is for a niche audience that enjoys sci-fi with a mix of horror.

Nihei has done various manga including Blame! and Biomega. Blame! and Biomega are classified as a cyberpunk adventure but the designs of Nihei’s creatures look like they came straight from a horror movie (Hellraiser comes to mind). I’ll admit that his art style isn’t for everyone but I found them to be intriguing and fresh from the manga I usually read.

The only manga I have read extensively was Blame! and it could get confusing sometimes. There’s minimum dialogue and the ending is ambiguous. It’s still a great read though. I’d recommend it to those who want a different experience with manga. The art is sketch-like in the beginning of the manga which is a plus in my book. He has also done a comic for Wolverine and Halo.
