If you don’t know who 2NE1 is then you’ve clearly been living in some sort of cave in a far off land in outer space. The four-member girl group from YG Entertainment has been stirring up quite the commotion ever since their debut late last year. The group has been highly successful and have several distinguishing features that differentiate them from other current girl groups in the industry. Keep reading to find out why I think 2NE1 is so successful.

1. Raw talent
While Dara is not entirely a great singer, her three other comrades are certainly forces to be reckoned with. Bom is definitely the designated “power singer” of the group, and she certainly lives up to that name. Both Minzy and CL are not only great rappers but they are also amazing singers, as well.

2. Powerful image
2NE1 distinguishes themselves from other groups by sporting a markedly different concept in comparison to other groups. Most other groups have either a sexy or cute concept. 2NE1, on the other hand, completely abandons the traditional concepts of femininity and instead portrays a powerful female concept. Through both their image and their songs, 2NE1 is empowering their female fans to break common stereotypes of what women should be like and encouraging them to adopt confidence in themselves despite what any guys may think.

3. Charisma
Going along with the “powerful image” idea, 2NE1 is also a very charismatic group; people are drawn to them. Two of the outstandingly charismatic members of 2NE1 are CL and Dara. CL is, without a doubt, the HBIC and acts as such. Dara has an air about her that just makes people inclined to like her. Furthermore, the group members simply love what they’re doing. As evidenced from their stage present and their energy level, the members of 2NE1 simply love music and performances.

So, I’ve stated why I think 2NE1 is a great group, but what I’m interested in is what you think makes them a great group (or not a great group). Thoughts?

I did say from afar…

Can’t say whether K-ara’s talent level is good or not...songs are pretty good.

Do dispute on your definition of charism (dictionary def:  a special magnetic charm or appeal.)

Being cutesy and girly can definitely be charismatic...otherwise groups/artists such SNSD, Puffy, and Morning Musume would not be popular.  You may not care for cutesy and girly but those qualities do most definitely appeal to a big portion of the population.


^ kara doesn’t fit tuc’s three criteria. new kara instantly fails at criterion #1 because most of their talent was gone the moment kim sunghee left the group. new kara and their pretty girl/honey/rock u travesties instantly fail at criterion #3. being cutesy and girly most definitely does not equate to charisma of any form.


While I think 2ne1 is a good group...I don’t see why they are that much better than the other female k-pop groups.

I can only talk about After School since they the only one I really pay attention to.  They have raw talent (Kahi, Raina, Bekah, Jungah), Powerful image (at least equal to 2ne1), and charisma (basically all of them but esp. UEE and Kahi).

From afar, Wondergirls, BEG, and K-ara seem to fit Tuc’s three criteria.

CL. That is why they are amazing. CL is a BAMF~

They always look like they are having fun on stage, which makes their performances much more enjoyable. Other groups (coughsnsdcough) look like robots on stage, haha.
