EXP: The Definite Guide & FAQ

EXP, short for experience points, is a measure of all the activity that you do on our network. In essence, the more you participate in our communities, the more EXP you will earn. High levels of EXP also grants you unique abilities and it’s also the basis of many of our contests and giveaways.

EXP is currently divided into three parts:

Levels - The sum total of all the activities you do on our network. These activities include commenting, uploading a profile photo, making friends, promoting articles in Newsstream, playing flash games, participating in Flash tournaments, and nearly 100 other things with more being added regularly. High level users have access and abilities that new users do not.

Pins – These are unique virtual awards for participating in various special events across our network. Think of pins like boy scout badges or Xbox Achievements. You get them for a lot of things, winning flash tournaments, guessing right in Movie Pin Games, beating certain scores in Pin Challenges, sharing a photo of yourself, or even just being online a certain day. Pins will appear in your EXP profile. For an example of someone with a lot of pins, check this guy.

Rewards - On our Ningin site, the top users win weekly prizes based on their scores for the week. We’ve also done contests requiring a certain amount of EXP points as a means of entry. More rewards are being developed using this system. This post has more information about some of our contest structures.

Where can I check my EXP?
Click the EXP link in the navigation menu. Currently, only Ningin, Wirebot, Girlybubble, Ziggytek, and HTCYou has this link.

How do I earn EXP points?
Points are earned for many different things. A partial list includes commenting on blog posts, playing games, promoting Newsstream stories, participating in MLG matches, uploading photos, making friends, sending private messages, and so on.

Points are also earned automatically when you log in every day, for each day that you have an avatar photo, for each day that you hold a gaming record, and many other things.

Quality and timing matters as well. Giving quality comments, lengthy comments, being the first to comment, etc. will earn you more points than a normal comment. At the same time, should your post spam or comments that deserve deletion, you’ll lose EXP points.

Why did I lose points?
Users over level 10 will lose a little bit of points each day that they don’t log in. We call this EXP decay. This is to prevent EXP inflation and discourage inactivity. The amount will be small, but enough to make a difference over the course of 1-2 years. Users can avoid EXP decay by logging in each day.

What is Mixr League Gaming (MLG)?
Mixr League Gaming or MLG for short, is a for-fun flash gaming league that we made up. The various matches and tourneys within MLG could be just one-time events or longer, multi-match ladders. This is easily the best way to earn EXP points and we highly encourage everyone to participate. The commitment is simple, play one game and submit at least one score to be included as having participated. MLG matches are held at least once weekly. Use this link to keep updated on MLG matches.

How do I get Record Holder points?
If your score is the highest for one of our tournament flash games in the past thirty days, you will automatically earn EXP for holding a record in that game. No further effort is needed on your part except to regain your record should someone else take it. Note, we only look at scores from the past 30 days so as to prevent freakish scores from dominating for all of time.

I didn’t get XYZ pin, help me.
Pins are given usually given out automatically or when a tournament or contest ends. If for some reason you did not get a pin that you think you deserved, please wait 24 hours. If you still don’t see it in your EXP profile, then contact a moderator or site admin with details about which pin you are missing.

What are some easy pins I can get?
Making one comments gets you the “2 cents” pin; posting a photo of yourself in your photo thread; making an introduction; participating in MLG matches and being on the winning team; making 100 comments; playing our weekly pin challenges and so on. We have hundreds of different pins across our network and have been adding more on a daily basis.

What are pin values and where do they come from?
Pin value is a fun way of seeing the worth of your pin collection. The values are derived from the rarity of the pins relative to the entire population of users on the network.

Do I get anything for finishing in the top 10 for the month?
A portion of your EXP scores carries over into the first week of the new month giving you an edge in the Weekly EXP prize contests. Additionally, the top 3 users of the month win gold pins related to the month. The top 10 users of the month win white pins related to the month.

What are fan points?
The fan points system is a means to measure fan loyalty to an artist, celebrity, brand, or product. Whenever you do an action associated with a blog post that has a fan tag associated with it, such as comment on it, you’ll earn fan points. For example, on Ningin, a blog post might be tagged with DBSK. Commenting on that post will earn you DBSK points. This is still under development but we are tracking fan points for future usage. It will not be limited to just blogs.

How often are the top 10 weekly/monthly EXP users updated?
The monthly top 10 is updated once a day. The weekly is updated hourly.
