The Cannes Film Festival is creeping upon us soon and four Asian films were announced for the competition. The Cannes Film Festival is all about giving prestigious awards and recognition to movies that are original and awe-inspiring. Let’s take a look at the four films and you tell me which one are you excited for.

First off we have Takeshi Kitano’s Outrage, a movie that revolves around the yakuza. I heard it’s going to be “frighteningly violent.”

Next is Lee Chang-Dong’s Poetry. It’s about an old lady battling Alzheimer’s disease who must raise her grandson (who gets involved in a suicide incident) alone. She starts to take poetry classes and write poems… Sounds like my type of movie.

The third movie is The Housemaid directed by Im Sang-Soo. This seems like it will be a spicy movie revolving around a husband having an affair with his housemaid and the consequences that follow. This movie is also a remake of the original 1960 film of the same name.

The fourth and final film is Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul. This film explores karma and reincarnation as a man is on his deathbed and meets his deceased wife and his other worldly son. (I could not find a poster or trailer for this movie.)

Which film has caught your interest?
