Korean R&B singer Gummy from YG Entertainment released her comeback album entitled Loveless a couple of days ago. I got my hands on a copy of it, and after a couple of good, hard listens, I’ve come to a couple of decisions regarding the songs on the album. Keep reading for a track-by-track review of the album.

1. 그만 헤어져 (Let’s Break Up) [4/5]
A very nice way to start off the album. This slow tempo R&B song sets the mood for the rest of the album.

2. Because of You (3.5/5)
This is definitely one of the bottom two songs of the album. That being said, it’s still pretty damn good. Although the chorus sounds great, the verse and bridge sound a bit awkward.

3. 사랑은 없다 (There Is No Love) [5/5]
You all know how I feel about this song. This song is hands down the best on the album. Strong vocals, strong instrumental and a feeling that sends chills up your spine.

4. 남자라서 (A Guy Thing) [4/5]
This track is, while still following the R&B model of the album, takes a bit of a faster pace than the other tracks. The song is well done and is reminiscent of 2NE1’s “I Don’t Care.”

5. 어떡해 (What Can I Do) [4/5]
Combining R&B and classical musical, this track has a very OST feel to it. What can I say? I’m a sucker for strong, passionate ballads.

6. 누구세요 ft. 빅톤 of 해피페이스 (Who Are You ft. Bigtone of Happy Face) [3.5]
Okay, so this is the other song on the album that’s not so up to par with the others. This is another attempt at an “upbeat” song, but it just didn’t play out that well. The rap is pretty mediocre.

Final Thoughts: Overall, this is a very good mini-album. I would say that four of the six tracks are definitely worth listening to, and the other two songs will most likely start growing on people sooner or later. The bottom line is that Gummy has some amazing vocals, and her voice marriage with R&B is a match made in heaven.
