Here we go again…as an attempt to counter Junsu, Yoochun, and Jaejoong’s lawsuit from nearly a year ago, SM Entertainment has decided to file a lawsuit against the trio in retaliation. The first trial will be held on May 7th–that’s tomorrow–at the Seoul District Courts. However, neither SM or the three members will be present at the hearing, as the defendant (the trio) and the plaintiff (that’s SM) do not have to attend civil cases.

One of the company’s representatives stated:

After the trio filed their injunction we did everything to continue TVXQ as a group so we tried to avoid the lawsuit. However, with the recent suspension of TVXQ’s activities in Japan and the uncertainty of TVXQ’s future and their activities, we’ve decided to pursue this course of action.

There are three goals that SME is trying to achieve with this lawsuit. First of all, it wants to end the free reign the three members currently enjoy due to their winning the last lawsuit regarding SME’s inhumane slave contracts. Second, the company wants their contracts with the trio to be reconsidered valid. And lastly, as compensation for the failed Shenzhen concert that Junsu, Yoochun, and Jaejoong refused to attend, SM is looking for 2.2 billion won from the members as compensation. Um, that’s roughly 2 million dollars in USD…what?

Not to be extremely biased, which I am, but this is just plain ridiculous on SM’s part. The members had already won their last lawsuit, which rendered the company’s slave contract invalid and gave them freedom to do whatever they wanted. What makes SM think that the courts will suddenly revoke their previous verdict? I think that SM is wasting their time and money, and if they actually win this lawsuit, I will suspect lobbying and foul play.

And also, the canceled Shenzhen concert wasn’t even the trio’s fault–they never agreed to it in the first place. SM planned the whole thing without consulting Junsu, Yoochun, or Jaejoong, and then placed all the blame on them when it canceled the concert due to the trio’s refusal to attend. The amount of money SM is demanding from them and the fact that it is demanding money from them in the first place is simply, for the lack of a better word, ridiculous. This whole thing is ridiculous. Can’t SM just give up already and leave the poor boys in peace?

Korea’s music industry is corrupt and artists are being taken advantage of left and right, especially the poor trainees that would agree to anything their companies asked of them in order to follow their dreams. If this whole, unhappy affair with DBSK must happen, I sincerely hope that this can open people’s eyes to the unfairness of the industry and that actions will be taken to make the contracts more fair for artists in the future. I’m just so very sorry that DBSK might potentially become martyrs in the name of advancing this cause.

Obviously, I’m rooting for DBSK in this lawsuit. What about you guys?
