Tanie Kitabayashi was a famed actress both on and off the screen. She died late last month on April 27th at the age of 98 due to the overwhelming symptoms of pneumonia.

Starring in several films over the course of her lifetime, Ms. Kitabayashi also was famous for her voice. Kitabayashi’s sweet and caring voice was often used to portray elderly women figures in various animes and animated films. Most notable was her voice-acting for the grandmother in My Neighbor Totoro.

It’s so sad to hear news like this… She was such an adorable old lady. May she rest in peace.
