In Ibaraki Precfecture, Japan, a young male child was found dead in a couple’s car after they were exposed for stealing from a supermarket.

The body was wrapped in a blanket in the back seat of the car when the boy was found. It seems that the boy had been dead for some weeks but the mother couldn’t let go of the boy. “He was just so cute, we couldn’t throw him away.” [Cute in this context (kawaii in Japanese) could translate into dear. So another way of putting this sentence is that the boy was very dear to the mother. Well, at least that's what I read from Japan Today's comments on the story.]

The couple admitted to neglecting the child. Apparently the couple (and presumably the child) had been living in the car and stole about 12,000 yen worth of items from the supermarket. However, a security guard caught them and followed them to their car. He confronted them and proceeded to call the police. That’s when they discovered the corpse in the back seat.

The details are very vague. It’s not confirmed if the parents tried to save their child or if they purposely neglected him. Either way, this is a sad story.
