In Hong Kong, a woman was sentenced to ten years in prison for killing an unborn baby after trying to retrieve it from her pregnant friend.

Leung met the victim on an online childcare forum back in 2008 where she found out that her friend was pregnant. Leung invited her to her home to pick up some baby supplies. However, Leung had other plans.

Desperate for a child, Leung strangled the poor woman with a cord and cut open her stomach in an attempt to steal the baby. The victim’s husband came home to this bloody scene and called the police.

Luckily the woman survived the attack but the same can’t be said of her unborn child who suffered brain damage and impaired bodily functions. The child died shortly after an emergency C-section at the hospital.

Leung had been diagnosed with a personality disorder and suffered through miscarriages in 2003. She started to pretend to be pregnant in 2008 by tying towels under her shirts. She even went as far as persuading a doctor to give her a maternity leave certificate and putting her name on ultrasound images from other women to fool her family and friends. Even her husband was fooled by this charade.
