The “Nonexistent Youth” bill that is currently under construction in the Japanese congregation has been under some fire lately. Not only is there opposition from manga publishers but there are also lawmakers and politicians criticizing the bill for being vague and unclear. One such politician is the mayor of Tokyo, Shintaro Ishihara.
Referring to the “nonexistent youth,” the mayor commented, “Are they talking about ghosts or something?” He says that the bill needs to be taken back to the drawing board and redrafted. An influential political figure such as the mayor of Toyko may be just enough to destroy all hope of the bill passing by June.
Hm. I see where he is coming from. Although it seems silly, clarifying exactly what constitutes illegal pornographic material is some serious business! If you don’t cover all your bases, then you end up leaving loopholes for publishers to jump through.
