In the Philippines, a 32-year-old man made his one-year-old son and three-year-old daughter drink pesticide last Wednesday and afterwards, drank some in an attempt at a murder-suicide.

The son died on the evening of the same day and the daughter died the following day. The father, who survived, is still under medical observation and is guarded by the police.

The reason for such an insane idea was the fact that the mother of the children, who was away on business in Manila, wanted to get a divorce. Either out of despair or spite, Duran took the children to their farm in a remote village where he made them consume the pesticide.

Such a tragic story that didn’t need to end the way it did. Poor children! The man should have thought things through instead of acting on pure emotion. I also think that the wife should have told him in person instead of on the phone so she could reason with him. Then she might have been able to save their children from such tragic deaths.
