Junsu’s Beautiful Love ~Kimi ga Ireba~ is finally out and it comes with a spiffy video that features scenes from Yoochun’s drama, Beautiful Love. I’m not quite sure what it means by “short version,” but hopefully that means there will be a longer version coming out in the near future in terms of both MV and song!

I have never watched a drama before, so I’ll leave the critique of the drama to all you experienced drama watchers out there. It does look good to me though, especially since one of the co-stars, Yoochun of DBSK, is making his acting debut in this drama. Remember, the drama airs on June 4–Yoochun’s birthday! Look out for it!

As for the song…I admit that I had somewhat of a spazz attack while listening to this. The instrumentals at the beginning were nice–they didn’t blow me away, but they nicely set the mood for the rest of the song. I got just this happy, hopeful feeling out of it that I enjoyed. But as soon as Junsu started singing, oh gosh. His voice melds so well with anything and everything. I really like the light, stable melody that starts off the song, which takes a slight detour with a gorgeous rise in notes (at 0:38 or so) before returning to its starting position in order to prepare for a seamless transition to the chorus, which is nothing short of epic. I was initially slightly disappointed to hear that the song wouldn’t return to the beautiful melody that started off the song (maybe in the longer version), but that changed once I heard the bridge that took its place, which does not disappoint in the slightest. The song finishes off with gorgeous variations of the chorus. The instrumentals change to a lovely, yet simplistic tinkling of the piano, before coming back full force to hit the listener with what I like to think of as a wave of sound. I admit that I kind of died when Junsu hit that high note, because I was expecting it to go back down like it did earlier. It was definitely a welcome surprise though, and one of my favorite things about this song. You can also hear some harmonization in the background, as well as a nicely held note sustained with Junsu’s customary vibrato. As usual, Junsu manages to really bring out the emotion backing the song, which also appeals to me greatly.

I find myself really liking the variation found in Junsu’s first single. You have Intoxication, which is more or less a dance track (I’m still not buying the whole medium tempo ballad thing), Kanashimi no Yukue, which is a gorgeous and slow ballad, and now we have Beautiful Love ~Kimi ga Ireba~, which I think nicely falls under the category of “power ballad.” I thought that Kanashimi no Yukue would hands down be my favorite song in the single, but I don’t know…this song is putting up a very good fight. Hope there actually will be a “long version” released soon!

Nevermind, seconds after I finished writing this, I realized that the MV simply features a shortened version of the song. Enjoy the long five minute version, everyone! (And yes, like I predicted–kind of–the opening melody comes back after the first chorus in the long version).

On second reflection, I actually really do like the instrumentals for this song.

What do you guys think of the song and the drama?
