The first time we saw 4Minute, they were emotionally weak about their debut song ‘Hot Issue.’ Then they came back with ‘Muzik’ and they certainly upped their game by far. Not slowing down this momentum, the girls wowed fans recently with their comeback ‘HuH’. 4Minute recently gave an interview that disclosed a few secrets behind this comeback..

“Each members’ style has been expressed in a chic and classy way. Instead of pure and lovely, we try to display classiness.” Begins their leader, Nam JiHyun. “Fans say we are goddesses.”

Known for her “designer body,” 4Minute’s resident power vocalist, Heo Gayoon recently went through a strict diet. In a recent video where the girls shot their album jacket, Gayoon revealed her diet secret. “I only ate chicken breasts. I exercised hard and practiced the dance moves.”

She talked more about 4Minute’s strict diet, “In general, instead of trying to lose weight, we try to tone our body lines. While we were resting there was a lot of controversy when pictures of ‘belly fat’ from other girl groups were brought to light. It kind of felt like a burden to us. I thought that I could lose weight from just practicing the dance moves, but once my body got used to it, that wasn’t the case. Since all the unnies were dieting, even our youngest SoHyun stopped eating at the table with everyone else to be considerate of our diets.”

Jeon JiYoon, who is known as ‘Sunglasses Jeon’ among fans, has kept her short hairstyle once again. Though a difference can be seen, as she has dyed her hair for the first time in her life. JiYoon represents a strong and boyish image in the group rather than a girly image.

She revealed, “There was a time when I wanted to be seen as more feminine. I even tried something new and added long hair extensions but I think the strong image suits me best.”

GaYoon also revealed some trivia about JiYoon’s personality off-stage, “You wouldn’t be able to guess it, but JiYoon has a really cute personality. It’s the complete opposite of the person you see on stage. She laughs a lot too. In our eyes, she has become more girly compared to when we were promoting ‘Muzik’ or ‘Hot Issue’. A lot of people say ‘You got prettier’ to her. Compared to the past, while she is boyish a bit, her femininity always shines through.”

What surprised many fans is the fact that 4Minute can dance strongly and charismatically even while wearing unstable high heels. On average, their heels are about 13cm (5in). They shared, “The prettier the shoes, the higher the heels. This time, instead of wearing the kind of heels that supports the ankle, we are wearing shoes with narrow heels that accentuate the body line.” During the ‘Muzik‘ promotions, SoHyun was known to even wear 15cm(6in) heels to make up for her height and often times wearing them for up to 20 hours!

Even though their ‘killer’ heels accentuate the body line to give the girls a strong image, 4Minute’s rapper Kim HyunAh shared the downsides to wearing such high heels. “Compared to when we debuted, our feet are messed up now. There are blisters and plenty of calluses. During our practice breaks, we look at each other’s feet and I feel a bit regretful, but they look pretty to us in a strange way. They show how hard we’ve worked.”

The girls had no idea they would ever see themselves like this one day. “We’re becoming closer as we find similarities in our personalities. We can feel each others energy.”
